Green Morocco Plan: Agro-industrial Poles will be Set Up
Six agro-industrial poles will be set up within the framework of the Green Morocco Plan (PMV) to reinforce the offerings of the sector, affirmed Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries Friday night in Meknes.
The Minister, who spoke during the 4th International Moroccan Agricultural Expositions (SIAM) on the theme of "Moroccan Food-Processing in the Face of a Global Crisis," said that two agricultural poles will become operational this year and that preparations for the launching of four others are underway.
The creation of these units is part of the PMV strategy, which also has the objective of improving, in terms of both quantity and quality, agricultural raw materials destined for processing, explained the Minister.
According to him, the adoption of this strategy has proven necessary for the recovery of the sector, whose development is clearly inferior to the levels reported in other countries. In Spain, he said, the rate of growth for the sector is three times higher than that registered in Morocco. He also underlined that the rate of value enhancement generated by the food industry in Morocco is three times lower than in Spain.
The development of the agri-business requires the mobilization of all the public and private partners, added the Minister, who rendered homage, on that occasion, to the "Crédit Agricole du Maroc" for their firm commitment to support the implementation of the PVM by making available the sum of 20 billion dirhams over the next five years.
